Vitamin H helps some enzymes break down substances in the body for energy and helps tissues develop. It is found in yeast, whole milk, egg yolks, and organ meats. Vitamin H is water-soluble (can dissolve in water) and must be taken in every day. Not enough vitamin H can cause skin, nerve, and eye disorders.
Chickens with biotin deficiency are at an increased risk of developing secondary bacterial infections anywhere where their skin is exposed---such as their feet (bumblefoot) and bare patches without feathers (breast blister).
It's also known as vitamin H. Your body needs biotin to help convert certain nutrients into energy. It also plays an important role in the health of your hair, skin, and nails. If you aren't getting enough biotin, you may experience hair loss or a scaly red rash.
